Making McDonalds Style Chicken Nuggets at home
There is something entirely satisfying about biting into a clean, crisp chicken nugget with a juicy center. Perhaps it is the unmistakable crunch you hear upon every munch. Or maybe it’s in knowing that you still have a couple more on your plate to stuff into your mouth. Unlike pure chicken parts with which you adjust around the bone, the meat is simply laid out for you to eat. And it is prepped with the most flavorful seasonings to boot!
But we won’t be making just any recipe of chicken nuggets here. Arguably one of the most popular and well-loved of its kind, McDonald’s nuggets have a distinct savor and thin crispiness to them that make them a little more tempting to drab on the drive thru. However, they can also be tried out at home, fresh out of your own kitchen!
Follow these steps to fry your own chicken nuggets, McDonalds style!
Let’s start off by making our barbecue sauce to match the crispy, golden nuggets:
For the sauce, you will be needing ½ cup of tomato ketchup, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Put these all together in a saucepan, and then heat it, letting it simmer for 2 minutes. Stir them together then turn off your heat. After you’ve let your ingredients cool, you’re all good to go with your thick, savory barbecue sauce.
Time to make our chicken nuggets:
Grab 1 lb of boneless chicken breasts. And then cut these up into cubes so they could easily be broken down in our food processor. Then alongside 1 piece of Knorr Chicken Cube, 1 teaspoon of granulated white sugar, and ½ teaspoon of salt, place your chicken inside a food processor. Process all of your ingredients until a paste-like texture is formed.
Now we will get to making our batter by placing 1 cup of water, 1 egg, ¾ cup of all-purpose flour, ¼ cup of cornstarch, 1 teaspoon of ground white pepper, and 1 teaspoon of onion powder into a bowl. Mix these all together, then set them aside because we’re going to prepare our kitchen for some deep frying action!
Let your oil heat to 350 °F then bring your chicken mixture from earlier out. Measuring to around 1 tablespoon, scoop these up and mold into the shape of a nugget. If you’d like a flatter top to your chicken nuggets, you can try covering this with parchment paper. Afterwards, you can slice them up into individual pieces with shapes of your preference.

Then dredge these in ¾ cup of cornstarch, and proceed to dip them in your batter. Before placing them in the deep fryer, make sure to let the excess liquid drip. Then deep-fry your nuggets until they become a beautiful golden brown. Take these from the cooking pot. Then put them on your plate that’s lined with paper towels to take some of the excess oil out.
And then we can put everything together by pouring our barbecue sauce into the container of choice. Then serve it beside your crunchy, juicy chicken nuggets!

McDonalds Style Chicken Nuggets
- 1 lb. chicken breast boneless
- 1 piece Knorr Chicken Cube
- 1 teaspoon granulated white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 cup water
- 1 piece egg
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground white pepper
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ cup tomato ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Make the sauce by combining all barbecue sauce ingredients in a saucepan. Heat and let it simmer for 2 minutes. Stir and turn off the heat. Let it cool down before serving.
Prepare the chicken nuggets. Cut chicken into cubes. Place in a food processor.
Add Knorr Chicken Cube, sugar, and salt. Process until the texture becomes paste-like.
Combine batter ingredients in a bowl. Mix well. Set aside.
Heat oil to 350F.
Scoop around 1 tablespoon of chicken mixture. Mold into a nugget shaped figure. You may also flatten it by covering with parchment paper and slice into individual pieces.
Dredge in cornstarch and dip in batter. Let excess liquid drip.
Deep-fry until the color turns golden brown. Remove from the cooking pot and place on a plate lined with paper towels.
